AAA (No. 10): Doctor Who Watercolors

Posted on

This is from August 19th, a few quick Doctor Who themed pieces that I sent with some ‘happy mail’ to a fellow Whovian.

What Medium: Cardstock, watercolor paints, paint brush, water

Estimated Time: A few minutes per piece of paper, mostly just spent an hour relaxing

Title: TARDIS and Don’t Blink

As I mentioned I did these really quickly for a sort of ‘happy mail’ swap on Swap-bot.com. My partner happened to be a fellow Doctor Who fan (or Whovian) and I decided to see how hard it would be to paint the TARDIS, then got rather ambitious and tried to do a Weeping Angel. The details were meant to be blurred, just a quick thing, but I knew I could do better so once the paper finished drying I took a pen to it. I think it turned out really well and the woman who received them told me that she loves them and has them hanging up next to her desk. I’m glad my art was able to make someone else’s day!

AAA (No. 9): Watercolor Wonder

Posted on

I know, I know, I just posted one Amateur Art in August post late and I’m posting another one – but this time, at least, my Amateur Art in August samples were actually made on the correct day! I present my latest branching out (or back, as the case may be, since I’ve used watercolor paints before).

What Medium: Cardstock, watercolor paints, paint brush, water, washi tape

Estimated Time: A few minutes per set, roughly an hour just relaxed painting

Title: None

I don’t know if it’s because it’s summer time and there are still many flowers still in bloom here in Tennessee but I felt I needed to capture the movement and beauty around me so I decided to do a few whimsical flowers. The plus side to this one is that I had a watercolor themed ATC (or Artist Trading Card) swap from Swap-Bot.com that prompted me to buy another set of watercolors in the first place. Here are some examples of my Friday work:

AAA (No. 8): More ATC Cards!

Posted on

Hallelujah, it’s the weekend! Here’s my late Wednesday Amateur Art in August post. The chaos of this week has just been a little overwhelming. I’ll explain more of that later. In the meantime, here’s my belated Wednesday AAA post with things I didn’t create until Thursday 😉

What Medium: Cardstock, old magazines, stick glue, spray-on adhesive, label sticker, sheet music, stamp, ink, paint, permanent marker

Estimated Time: All day, on and off. Probably would have taken a couple of hours for all three from start to finish if I had had them.

Title: “Lazy Summer Days”, “Untitled”, “Geometry Love”, Doodle

AAA (No. 7): Mug Monster

I cannot tell a lie. I stole a piece of my son’s Crayola Mess Free Color Wonder paper. Why? Because I like the way the markers sliiiiiiiiide on the paper. It feels more like water color painting, which I miss and am very sad that I cannot find my water colors…. Oh well. Here’s my belated doodle for yesterday and I hope to have something to show tomorrow but have a doctor’s appointment in the afternoon and can make no promises.

What Medium: Crayola Mess Free Color Wonder paper, Crayola Mess Free Color Wonder markers, artist marker

Estimated Time: Half an hour. Just a quick sketch and color.

Title: “Mug Monster”

Enjoy!

AAA (No. 6): Color Me Artist Trading Cards

Posted on

I meant to post this on Friday but as it often happens, life got in the way. So without further ado my Friday August 9th Amateur Art in August entry No. 6, ‘Color Me’ Artist Trading Cards.

What Medium: Printer Paper, Artist Marker, Playing Cards, Paint, Paintbrush, Tape, Spray-on Adhesive

Estimated Time: This took me several days. I was able to complete one set a day – doodle first, drawing next, paint the playing cards, let the paint dry between coats, apply cards to paper, cut cards out – viola!

Here’s what you do – grab a sheet of plain paper, a deck of playing cards, a pen/marker, some paint, a paintbrush, some tape (optional), and some spray-on adhesive. Got that? Good. Now doodle some shapes. Any shape whatsoever. Or doodle a picture. I doodled shapes because I wanted to fill the shapes with pictures. Here’s an example:
